Evaluation
How does your media product present particular social groups?
My magazine presents young teenage girls who are into pop music and are interested in it this is because my magazine includes normal teenage girls who made it into the music industry. My magazine was aimed at teenage girls and younger girls so I have tried to represent them and girls/artist similar to them in the magazine because it is something they would be interested in. With my media product I have stuck to the pop stereotype of using two girls in the magazine because from my research I found that more women/ females buy pop music magazines or most magazines as opposed to me who do not spend as much on magazines.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
A media institution is a company that owns numerous companies in various mass media for example: television, radio, publishing, motion picture, and the Internet. One of the biggest media institutions that publish music magazines is IPC; they sell over 350 million copies each year. Another big media group is Bauer media group, it is a German company and it operates in 15 countries worldwide. The music magazines this publisher provides are Q, Mojo and Kerrang. Another example of a media institution is E map; this is the second largest magazine publisher in the UK. From my research I think the media institution to publish/distribute my magazine would be IPC this is because the magazines they distribute now are music magazines and gossip magazines which is why I think they would be interested in pop music magazine because it is a mix of both and I think they would be interested in it, they also sell 350million copies and I am sure if they could sell more they would want to.
What have you learnt on Photoshop?
In Photoshop I have learnt how to crop and clean up images; most of my pictures were of a good quality because they were taken with a good camera, I have also learnt how to crop out the background of any pictures, I needed to do this with my magazine front cover image because my background was white and the original picture had a black screen background.
I had never used Photoshop before this so in order to get my pictures to a good quality I had to learn how to make my picture clear, tidy and of a good quality. Using the wand tool (2) I went around the image and got rid of most of the black background but I could not get to close to the actual image because the colour of her leggings were getting taken away as well. To prevent this I had to go around the image with the pen tool (1) I use this and got as close to the image as possible, this was mainly used around her legs so they would not get mixed up with the black background. The final thing I did was use the rubber to get rid of and bits I did not want or need.
Who would be your audience for your media product?
The audience for my magazine is mainly teenage girls, the first thing I did was look at what types of music is trending most and with what age group. After doing some research I found pop music magazines were one of the most popular magazines, this was mainly because they included all of the latest gossip that teenage girls want to know and they also came with free posters and stickers. I also found that these were very popular amongst girls, especially teenage girls. For this reason I targeted my magazine to teenage girls and even girls of a younger age because they are the most likely to buy a pop magazine.
How did you attract/address your audience?
I used many different things to try and attract the audience I wanted, the first thing was my choice of colours for the magazine my colour theme was the main thing I had to keep in mind when making this magazine because the colours are the first thing you see and with pop magazines I find the colours have to bright and the writing has to be big and bold. So the colours I went for in the end were:
The first piece of software which I used was InDesign which is where my magazine was made, this was a piece of software that I had never used before, I found this fairly easy to use because it was quite straightforward because everything was in the toolbox, from InDesign I learnt how to actually use the software. I have also learnt how to insert images, text and colour and I have learnt how to use all of the different tools on InDesign. Using Indesign actually made the whole process easier because I was able to use a range of different fonts etc, this meant I could give the right look to my magazine. Another good thing i have learnt from Indesign is I could make my own colour swatches and save them and reuse them, this meant that I could have a continuous colour theme throughout my magazine.
The second piece of software I used was Photoshop, from this I learnt how to edit my images to a good quality, and I have also learnt that Photoshop is capable of changing your image and editing it to give it the exact look that you want. This was good because it meant I could produce good quality pictures which were right for my magazine.
This was another piece of software I used, this is where I blogged all my work, this was the first software that I had never heard of before, this was fairly easy to use so I enjoyed being able to easily blog my work. The good thing about blogger is that you can create drafts and you do not need to publish them, this is good because it means you can come back to them.
From my preliminary task I have found I have learnt how to present a magazine and make it look interesting, looking back I have found my preliminary task was very plain and it was not eye catching at all, i think this has improved in my pop magazine because i have thought about my target audience and made it eye catching and interesting for them.

Using these colours are eye catching for the age group that I am aiming at which means the front cover will stand out to them, this will interest them and would make them want to buy the magazine. Another way in which I have tried to attract my audience is by including eye catching sub headings which are the stories and the latest gossip which is included in the magazine. This will attract my audience because young teenage girls will always be interested in celebrity’s latest gossip. I have also made this stand out on top of the magazine so it is the first thing people see when they look at it along with the title.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Whilst making my magazine I had to use three different pieces of software these were: Photoshop, InDesign and blogger.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
From the first task we did which was making the school magazine I feel I have learnt how to make my product look more appealing to my target audience, I have also learnt how to get the magazine up to a good quality and add picture relevant to the type of magazine I am making. I have also learnt how to layout the magazine and how to make it look more appealing in terms of choosing specific colours relevant to my magazine genre. I have also developed a better understanding from using InDesign and Photoshop and this has resulted in me being able to use the software to a produce a good piece of work. With the preliminary tasks I had never used any of these three different software’s before so I did not know how to use them in order to make my magazine of a higher quality.

School Magazine Evaluation
Our first task was to make a school magazine front cover, this was quite an easy task in the sense It was easy to take pictures and make the magazine because we attend school so we can take full advantage of our school and take pictures of buildings and student.
The first thing I did when making my school magazine was take pictures of my model who was Sanah Adeeb another student from my school. The reason as to why I chose her to take the pictures was because she was dressed smart therefore she went with the theme of my school magazine. When taking the pictures I had to keep in mind that this is a school magazine so I tried to include a school building in the background. I also had to make sure that the lighting was good so the picture was off good quality so I took he picture on a sunny day. I had to take a few pictures from different angles so I could get one that I knew would look good.
When making my magazine I used Indesign, this was a software I had never used before therefore it was a bit difficult for me to use it. To edit and improve the quality of my pictures I used Photoshop, This was because I wanted my picture to be of a good quality as it is the front cover of the school magazine. My magazine had a colour theme of black and a very light baby blue, this was because as it is a school magazine it had to have a very smart look to it so i could not use other colours such as pink because it would not match my magazine.

Music Pictures Analysis
Picture 1
This is a
picture I did not use for my media product, the reasons as to why I did not use
the picture was because of the way she was standing, she is standing in a very
formal and relaxed manner which does not go with the theme of my pop magazine.
Another reason as to why I did not use this image was because of the amount of
head space, it was too much head room so I could not use this image because
even if I did edit/crop it her head is still tilted and looking down.

This is a
picture I did use, I used this picture because in this picture she is smiling
which is what I wanted, I did not want an image of someone with a dull facial
expression which is why I decided to use this image on my contents page of some
happy and smiling. Another reason as to why I used this image was because she’s
not doing an extreme pose it’s a very natural picture which is what I wanted
for my pop magazine.

This is
another picture I used because this one had to be a kind of model pose as it
was going to go on my front cover, I did not want anything to be too over the
top as I am already doing that with my colour choice of the text on the front
cover which is why the model is wearing very basic colours, but the colour
stands out on the front page because the text is a completely opposite colour
to what she is wearing.

This is another picture I did not use for my magazine, this was because of many different reasons, the first reason was because she did not look like she was posing for a magazine, she was standing up to straight and formal, this does not go with the kind of look I want for my magazine. I wanted a very casual look for my magazine but I wanted to make it very pink and girly so the pose had to suit the girly theme which is another reason as to why i did not use this picture. She also looked very awkward in the picture and she was facing her whole body towards the camera but i decided to go with the side pose.

Font analysis
The
font I have decided to use is Mistral this is because this suits my magazine
best because it fits my theme of pop really well. The other fonts are too bold
and too bold; this font that I have chosen is a very unique different font
which suits my magazine. The other font which was Calibri body I felt did not suit
my magazine as the writing was too thin therefore it would not suit the theme
of pop. I felt like the other fonts which were Arial Black, Gill sans Ultra Bold Condensed and
Franklin Gothic Heavy Were all very similar in the sense that they were too big
and bold so I felt like those fonts would not appeal to my target audience
which is teenage and younger girls. I feel like the font Mistral is very girly
so it will stand out because it is different from the other fonts I have seen
and overall I think it suits my magazine front cover very well.

Music Magazine Analysis
Big bold white font to attract the reader’s attention
straight away, big image so people passing see it and want to see what it is
about; they have kept the main magazine black and white so everything else is
more eye-catching. They have kept the colour of the font white so. The magazine
has three theme colours which are easy to see they are yellow blue and white,
these are the colours that stand out the most. The subheadings are highlighted
yellow so they have a bigger effect on the reader so they read the subheading
as well as the title. 
The theme of the magazine is pop that’s why it is very
colourful, the cover is very full and there are not any blank spaces. The title
is very bold and pink they have made it stand out even more with the white
lines going around it. Because most of the magazine is pink and purple the
white really stands out. The writing is very informal because it is aimed at
teenage girls so it is written like it is gossip, this makes them want to read
out and find out if it is true or not.
This cover is very pink and bright and there is just a lot of different colours going on it is like a rainbow bursts of colours, having bright colours makes the cover stand out because it makes it extremely eye catching. another thing that makes this cover extremely eye catching id the big main picture, having one big picture on a over of a magazine is always eye catching as it stands out to you as your walking past. there is also a lot of exclamation marks used for the subheadings so everything is exaggerated which i think draws in their target audience which is teenage girls and boys because teenagers always want to know the latest gossip. they have also shown the fun things included in the magazine on the front cover things such as fashion tips from Ariana grande and posters of different celebrities, this always attracts people because having a magazine come with other things like that will always get brought more than magazines without them because they are always listed as "free posters!"
This contents page is very full of pictures and alot of writing so there are not many blank spaces, they have used a very bold and big font which is eye catching and they have also included their logo on the contents page so it is clear to the reader which magazine it is. They have included lots of pictures of different celebrities, this makes the magazine more interesting because when their target audience see this page they are going to want to continue reading so they can find out more. They have also included things the celebrities have said or done which leaves the story on a cliff hanger to make the audience want to continue reading to find out the full story.
This page is the next middle page, it is all about one celebrity so they have included a lot of pictures of the celebrity, they have included pictures of her wearing different clothes and she has different hairstyles. This is something young girls would be interested in seeing and reading which is why they have got a whole page on it. they have kept the text black on this page because the colour from the pictures is already a lot so they did not want to go too strong with the colour.

Target Audience
My target audience for my pop magazine is going to be teenage girls, from my research I have found that the main things teenage girls look for in pop music magazines is the latest celebrity gossip, that is one of the main reasons as to why they read them. they also want to know exclusive news and sneak peaks of singers new music and albums titles. Overall I have found that the main thing I have to remember to include in my magazine for my target audience is eye catching titles which are titles for everything they want to see, the colors have to be "girly" and i have to make sure they stand out out so the magazine is eye catching. my target audience which is teenage girls also want something to hang on their walls or something they can keep which is hy i am going to include free posters and stickers in my magazine because that is guaranteed to catch their attention.

Media school pictures analysis
Picture 1
This is an image that I decided not to use in my magazine; this was because the image was too close up for my magazine and I felt like it would not suit the cover and it would not look good on the front page. Another reason as to why I didn’t use it was because I decided that I wanted a full length picture which means I would have to take a long shot picture.
Picture 2
This is another close up picture that I decided not to use; this was because it was too close so there was not enough headroom in the picture so she looked as tall as the building which would not look right. Another reason as to why I decided not to use this picture was because she was not looking at the camera I decided I wanted a picture where the model was looking straight at the camera.
Picture 3
This is a picture that I used on the front cover of my magazine, I decided to use this picture because she was looking at the camera and it was a full length shot so you can see all of her. There was also the right amount of head space so she looked all in proportion with the background and also you can see her dressed in school clothes so it definitely went with the theme of my magazine.

This is a picture that I used on the front cover of my magazine, I decided to use this picture because I found that it was good angle of the building and you could see the whole thing as opposed to the other pictures I took where you can only see certain parts of the building.

This is a picture that I did not use on my magazine cover because I felt like the lighting and the angle was not good, you could not see the full building which is what I wanted, that is why I decided to use the other picture.
